Abstract:A surface lipid extract was made of uredospores of wheat stripe rust, Puccinis striiformis. The major components of the extract are β-diketones, n-alcohols and hydrocarbons. The surface lipid extract of the host wheat has a composition that is qualitatively similar, if not the same, in the major components. Even though there are quantitative differences in the two extracts, it appears that at least the three major components appear on the uredospore surface as a result of the host-parasite relationship.
