Abstract:A comparative study of soluble proteins of N. dombeyi seedlings showed significant differences between electrophoretic patterns of cold-conditioned samples (48 hr at 0°) and control seedlings kept at 18°. A cold-induced polypeptide with apparent Mr of 35 k was isolated. The polypeptide showed an ability to protect isolated thylakoid membranes against freezing in comparison to low Mr cryoprotectants. The isolated protein may play a role in the development of freezing tolerance.
