The Viability of Rice Seed in relation to Temperature, Moisture Content, and Gaseous Environment

The seed viability of a tropical variety of rice has been investigatedin hermetic storage under a range of conditions of temperatureand moisture content. The results confirm a previous suggestion,which was made on the basis of data from temperate cereals,that the relationship between these factors and viability canbe described in simple mathematical terms. In addition, a comparisonhas been made of the effects on viability of hermetic storagein air, oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon dioxide.
