Abstract:Arabidopsis thaliana accessions have shown genetic diversity and type of stressor to be important determinants of transgenerational stress memory. Alvarez et al. found that certain accessions showed reversible phenotypic plasticity, supporting a model of transgenerational stress memory based upon epigenetic changes. The main proposed epigenetic regulators include DNA methylation, histone modifications, and RNA silencing via small noncoding RNA.
