| Abstract: | Summary Nutritional requirements for the production of ergot alkaloids were studied with Aspergillus fumigatus under submerged conditions of fermentation, in a chemically defined medium. Glucose in combination with mannitol and triammonium citrate were found to be the best sources of carbon and nitrogen for the production of alkaloids. Carbon to nitrogen ratio of 4.16 : 1 was found optimum. Phosphate at elevated concentration inhibited alkaloid production. |
