On the highest units in the system of plant communities

It is evident that some higher syntaxonomic unit above the classes is needed. The “circle of vegetation”, proposed byBraun-Blanquet is a geographical, not a synecological unit; the “formation”, recommended recently byPassarge, is based on physiognomy and therefore inconsistent with the principles of lower entities. The “division” proposed recently by Jakucs seems to be identical with the “type of vegetation”, published already 11 years ago by the present author.
