Abstract: | We conducted a quantitative evaluation of the management of industrial accidents for 31 provinces in mainland China through the data envelopment analysis (DEA) method. It was found that there is a significant difference among the provincial accidents-management performances. The characteristics of the provinces with high performances in managing industrial accidents are: developed economy, convenient transportation, advanced technologies, and immediate access to medical care. Factor analysis revealed that the implementation of compulsory auto liability insurance and high population density are correlated with the high management performance of industrial accidents, while population movement and advanced technologies increase the vulnerability to industrial accidents. Further, the work-related injury insurance did not significantly promote management of accidents. Some implications are recommended for both government and business enterprises according to the results. |
