Abstract: | Plants grown in a high carbon dioxide environment (< 1 percent) were found to have increased levels of RuDP carboxylase, and suppressed activities of catalase, glycollate oxidase, andnitrate reductase, enzymes all associated with the peroxisome.Similarly, plants grown in low oxygen concentrations showedsuppressed activities of the peroxisomal enzymes. However, underthese conditions RuDP carboxylase activity was also suppressed. These results further suggest that nitrate reductase activityis associated with photorespiration. |
