| Abstract: | On surveying peanut virus diseases in Southern China in 1984 and 1985, a new virus disease characterised by leaf chlorotic spots and ring spots, necrosis of some upper leaves and top stems, stunting of infected plants was found.The diseased leaf samples had positive reaction with antiserum against Indian tomato spotted wilt virus (TSWV) in indirect ELISA tests. Spherical membrane-bound particles with 70-90 nm in diameter were observed in the cytoplasm in infected peanut leaves. A virus transmissibled by sap-inocula tion was isolated. Of 30 species tested the virus infected 15 species of plants in four families, inducing characteristic chlorotic spots and ring spots in most host plants.On the basis of above results,the causal agent of the new virus disease was identified as TSWV, which was first reported in China. |
