Abstract:This paper reviews the geomicrobiological role of sulphate-reducing bacteria (SRB) in environments contaminated with petroleum products and describes the habitats of SRB and their capacity for bioremediation in anaerobic conditions. Moreover, the participation of SRB in biocorrosion and formation of different minerals and sediments is discussed.
