Abstract:Fusaric acid-detoxifying gene from Cladosporium werneckii was cloned in Escherichia coli. The detoxification of fusaric acid was confirmed chemically by gas chromatography and biologically by using tomato callus cells. The damage caused by fusaric acid was dramatically diminished in tomato cuttings pretreated with E. coli cells containing the cloned plasmid. The findings suggest that genetically engineered microbes could be applicable to the protection of plants from diseases caused by fusaric acid-producing pathogens.
