Abstract: | By using the Giemsa C-banding technique, chromosome bandingpatterns on the somatic chromosomes of eight important pulsecrops, pea, lentil, guar (cluster bean), chick pea, pigeon pea, mung bean (green gram), urd (black gram) and cowpea have beenstudied. Each species has a characteristic C-banding pattern. The significance of such banding patterns which correlate withthe position of pachytene knobs, in chromosome identification, and in assigning relationships at the cytological level in thepulses of genus Vigna is stressed.
