| Abstract: | In the light of the misunderstandings detected in the area of water transport a model based on the physical sciences was designed in the form of an animated film. Pupils taught by this means were able to pick their way through the proposed hierarchy of ideas to construct for themselves a shorter (self-consistent) route than that envisaged by the designers. This route formed a useful ‘core’ approach to the topic which would be sufficient for O-level, but would be weak in its predictive properties and form an unsatisfactory base for further study. |
