Abstract: | Estradiol methyl ether is reduced by lithium and gaseous ammonia in much the same way as by lithium and liquid ammonia, to 3-methoxyestra-2,5(10)-dien-17β-ol, which, on hydrolysis in the usual manner affords 19-nortestosterone. |
