Growth rate correlations across life-stages in female Atlantic salmon

Within smolt ages there was a strong negative correlation between pre- and post-smolt growth in wild three-sea-winter female Atlantic salmon Salmo salar . This indicates that trait values providing, or resulting from, increased growth in one environment may cause growth to decrease in the other, potentially constraining growth rate evolution.
