Abstract: | Nineteen holothurian specimens were photographed or videotaped in situ on the deeper shelf of the Weddell Sea (Antarctica). These specimens show a different gradient and combinations of characteristics which are found in Bathyplotes rubipunctatus Gutt, 1990. A close relationship to this species is therefore suggested. However, based on external features which are conspicuous in live animals but not visible in preserved material they are classified into five groups. Further investigations will reveal whether these groups are distinct species, or merely variants of B. rubipunctatus . |
