| Abstract: | The Federal Government of Nigeria is constructing a dam across the River Niger at Kainji (9°51 N, 4°37E). When complete approximately 130,000 hectares will be inundated. An account of the climate, hydrology, geology, pedology, land-usage and vegetation of the reservoir site is given. The terrestrial plant communities are described in outline. The aquatic and marsh plant communities are described in more detail using the floristic-ecological method. |
