Abstract: | The influence of hydrolytic enzymes on the estrogen receptor and on the estradiol-receptor complex was studied. Proteolytic enzymes (trypsin, α-chymotrypsin, papain) phospholipases A and C, and β-glucuronidase reduced the subsequent in vitro binding of estradiol-17β by the receptor; they also released bound estradiol-17β from the estradiol-receptor complex. In addition, some glycosidases had an effect on the free receptor only. The results indicate that the estrogen receptor may contain phosphorus and carbohydrate moieties. |
