记苏北的两种剑齿象化石

本文记述了在苏北晚新生代地层中发现的两种剑齿象Stegodonzdanskyi和S.chiai。代表前者的化石材料是一件不完整的下颌骨，具有破损的左、右m2和完整的左m3，产自新沂唐店附近沐河岸边上白垩统红砂岩之上和上更新统黄土之下的含砾粗砂层，无共生化石。根据区域地层对比，产化石岩层的时代可能为晚中新世；代表后者的化石材料是产自泗洪归仁砂矿的几件臼齿，或臼齿碎块，与Proboscidipparionsp.，Palaeoloxodonnaumanni，Equussp．和Cervus（Pseudaxis）cf.magnus等共生，时代可能为早更新世晚期。归仁砂矿产的剑齿象M3特别长大，具有9个完整的齿脊和相当发育的跟座，其大小和特征可与S.chiai的模式标本m3相匹配，它们代表一种比S。zdanskyi个体更大，更进步的华北最晚期的剑齿象。

TWO SPECIES OF STEGODON FROM NORTHERN JIANGSU

In the past all the remains of Stegodon of North China were repoded from theloess plateau west 0f the Taihangshan, In recent years a few fossils of Stegodon arefound froin two localihes of northem Jiangsu far east of the Mountains. Thesediscoveries have not only extended the geographical distribuhon of Sngod0n in NodriChing but also shown som new fetas. Moreover, their occurred horizons and agesare also clear therefore, we are in a Posihon to bettor assign them to two species ofStegodon of North Chin4 namly, Smp0d0n zdanslyi Hopwood, l935, and S chiaiChow et Zhai, l962.
