Abstract: | Bioelectrosynthesis is a novel approach to developing new routes for the synthesis of fine chemicals and pharmaceuticals which combines the speed and selectivity of enzymic catalysis with an electrode as the ultimate source of reducing or oxidizing power. The electrochemistries of the NAD+ /NADH, FAD/FADH2, and FMN/FMNH2 systems are used to illustrate some basic principles. Technical and economic factors are also considered. |
