Abstract: | The susceptibility to d-tubocurarine, gallamine, pancuronium, succinylcholine, and decamethonium of the motor endplate innervated by the anterior tibial nerve was studied in alloxan diabetic rats and in rats pretreated with cortisone and dexamethasone. The sensitivity to various muscle relaxants of cholinergic receptors in the motor endplate of alloxan diabetic and glucocorticoid-treated rats was changed. Beside alterations in affinity, in some cases the kinetics of action were also altered as compared to controls. The phenomenon is suggested to be brought about by a modulator substance circulating in the blood of alloxan diabetic and glucocorticoid-treated rats. |
