Abstract:Taurine is a ubiguitious amino acid in the animal kingdom. Tt is found widely throughout the body and in particularly high concentrations in heart. Availbale evidence implies that taurine may serve a homestatic founction in heart by stablizing membrane through the regulation of cell membrane permeability to ions. Taurine influance K~+, Cl~- and Ca~(2+) translocation in heart. Recently, taurine was found that it may inhabit the membrane protein phsophloration involved Ca CaM system. Taurine is higher than noral ammounts in states of cardiovascular pathology; i.e. congestive heart failure and hypertension in men. Taurine can also protect the heart from drug-induced acute damage.
