Abstract: | In an electron microscope study to investigate the association of barley mild mosaic virus (BaMMV) with its fungal vector, Polymyxa graminis, thin sections were made of zoospores of the vector and of barley roots containing different stages in the life cycle of the fungus. Immunogold labelling was used to identify the virus in sections. Labelled bundles of presumed virus particles were seen in c. 1% of zoospores liberated from plant roots and in zoospores inside zoosporangia. A few zoosporangial plasmodia had localised labelling but no bundles were seen. No virus particles were seen in sections of resting spores. |
