Ultrastructure ofAspergillus fumigatus conidia development and maturation

Summary The development and maturation of conidia of the pathogenic fungus,Aspergillus fumigatus, were studied with the electron microscope. Thin sectioning and freeze-etching techniques were employed to examine young and mature phialides, as well as developing and mature conidia. The morphological changes observed during the process of conidia formation and their maturation centered primarily around the cell wall layers and the inclusions in the cytoplasm.This investigation was supported in part by Grant #A108119 from the National Institutes of Health.
