Abstract: | McClare has recently discussed the properties of machines which operate too fast for there to be appreciable thermalization between components. We argue that co-operative behaviour is likely in those machines and that if there is co-operativity, the machine cannot be treated as the superposition of a large number of “molecular energy machines”. This point may be relevant to models of muscle contraction. |
