Abstract:The characters of pollen abortion innucleo-cytoplasmic male sterile lines oftwo-rowed and six-rowed barley subvarie-ties were observed during each stageof pollen development by crushing andparaffin section.The two subvarietiesshow a simillar pollen abortive process.Theabnormal chromosomal condense of mothercell in prophase of meiosis results in col-lapse of itself.The abortion produced nopollen.We suggested that pollen abortionwas resulted from that the nucleo-gene cannot express correctly in allogenic cytopla-sm for nucleo-cytoplasmic male sterile li-nes.
