Abstract: | Arabidopsis thaliana roots grow in a wavy pattern on inclinedagar plates. This waving behaviour has been interpreted as representinga gravitropism-dependent thigmotropic response. We argue insteadthat this root waving represents primarily a flattened spiralgrowth pattern resulting from circumnutation and gravitropism.
