Mortality rate of Japanese twins: Infant deaths of twins after birth to one year of age |
| |
Abstract: | Abstract In twin individuals born in Japan in the first half of 1974, rates of infant mortality up to one year of age were computed according to sex and order of birth. The rates were 5.50 per cent for males and 3.81 per cent for females. A lower mortality rate for first‐born twins indicates a reduced viability for second‐born twins, even in MZ twins. The effect of maternal age, gestational age, and birth weight on the rates of infant mortality were also analyzed. |
