Abstract: | A wealth of new information regarding the structure of the synaptic complex, the mechanism of DNA strand exchange, and the role of the recombinational enhancer in promoting DNA inversion has been obtained from a combination of approaches. These include: electron microscopy of reaction intermediates, topological analysis of recombination products, and X-ray crystallography coupled with genetic analysis. |
