An active porous medium model for ciliary propulsion |

| Abstract: | The velocity profile in the cilia sublayer on dense ciliated cell surfaces is calculated by using an active porous medium model. Calculations using the beat patterns observed on Opalina and in cilia lining the airways of the lung predict maximum velocities similar to those observed in nature. |
