Abstract:Objective To observe the effect of compound Lactobacillus acidophilus tablet combined with lactulose on brain and gut peptide levels in patients with diabetes. Methods Ninetytwo patients with diabetes and constipation who were treated in the outpatient department from January 2018 to August 2019 were randomly divided into observation group or control group, 46 cases each. Both groups were given the same basic treatments. The patients in control group were additionally given lactulose oral liquid, 15 mL bid, while those in observation group were given Lactobacillus acidophilus tablet, 1.0 g tid, for 12 weeks. The levels of serum braingut peptides [nitric oxide (NO), substance P (SP) and vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP)] and constipation score were observed before and after treatment, and clinical effects were compared between groups. Results After treatment, the serum levels of NO, VIP and Wexner constipation scores in both groups were significantly lower, while that of SP was significantly higher (P2=4.040, P=0.046). Conclusion Compound Lactobacillus acidophilus tablet combined with lactulose is effective in treating patients with diabetes and constipation. Its mechanism of action may be improving colonic transmission through regulating brain and intestinal peptide secretion, reducing NO and VIP secretion, and promoting SP secretion.
