Root Hair Initiation and Development and Nutrient Uptake in Plants

Root hairs are important for nutrient uptake by plants, thus understanding the initiation and development of root hairs and their relationship to nutrient uptake would facilitate genetic im- provement of nutrient efficiency in plants. This review presents the morphology and development of root hairs and their regulatory mechanisms, followed by discussion about contribution of root hairs to nutrient uptake, regulation of root hair by nutrient availability, interrelationship between root hairs and other root features, and physiological and molecular processes related to nutrient uptake in root hairs.
