| Abstract: | Natural killer (NK) cells can mount an immediate response against viral infection, secreting cytokines and killing virus-infected cells. However, viruses have devised strategies to avoid immune detection. Here, we discuss NK cell recognition of viruses and propose that viruses may provide the evolutionary pressure causing the diversification of the NK cell receptors. |
