Abstract: | Moschus grandaevus Schlosser, the most ancient musk deer, is recorded from two Late Miocene localities in the south of Eastern Siberia, Olkhon Island (Lake Baikal) and Taralyk-Cher near Kyzyl (Tuva). The morphological study of the species elucidates the origin, evolution, and relationships of the genus Moschus and the entire family Moschidae. A new classification of the Moschidae is proposed. |
