Abstract:The mammalian cochlea's remarkable sensitivity and frequency selectivity are thought to be mediated by the mechanical feedback action of outer hair cells. New tools for measuring the movement of cochlear elements, and recent advances in modeling are increasing our knowledge of cochlear mechanics.
