Abstract:Antibacterial activity of the three-finger toxins from cobra venom, including cytotoxin 3 from N. kaouthia, cardiotoxin-like basic polypeptide A5 from N. naja (CLBP), and alpha-neurotoxin from N. oxiana venom, was investigated. All toxins failed to influence Gram-negative bacteria. The most pronounced activity against Bacillus subtilis was demonstrated by CLBP. The latter is ascribed to the presence of additional Lys-residues within the membrane-binding motif of this toxin.
