Abstract: | Sister chromatid exchanges (SCE) and cellular proliferation were studied in lymphocytes from 16 pregnant and 18 non-pregnant women. A lowered SCE frequency was found in lymphocytes obtained from pregnant women (9.41 +/- 0.39 vs. 11.07 +/- 0.42 SCE/metaphase in non-pregnant women). Lower proliferation rates were also common for cultures of pregnant women. Thus, physiological changes occurred in the organism of pregnant women may influence various cytogenetic indices registered in human peripheral blood cultures. |
