Changes in Free Fatty-acid Content and Respiratory Activity during the Senescence of Cotyledons of Cucumber

Abstract:During senescence the amount of free fatty acid in the chloroplastdecreases while the level in the tissue as a whole increases.Although this rise is sufficient to bring about an inhibitionof mitochondrial activity during the final stages of senescenceit occurs too late to explain the initial respiratory declinein cucumber cotyledons.
