| Abstract: | We have investigated the effect of a high concentration (750 nM) of synthetic amidated rat amylin on unstimulated somatostatin and insulin secretion as well as on the response of these hormones to arginine. Amylin consistently reduced insulin output but it did not significantly modify somatostatin release. These findings indicate that the inhibitory effect of amylin on insulin secretion is not mediated by a D-cell paracrine effect. |
