Abstract:Eighty-five common winter wheat cultivars and lines mostly selected in Ukraine were studied with the use of the NIR method to determine the relative index of hardness and protein content. Actual data concerning hardness were compared with data obtained from previous genetic studies and published sources. A significantly varying hardness index for genotypes with the same alleles of the puroindoline genes confirms the presence of extra genes that have effect on this trait.
