Abstract:Degeneration of indirect flight muscles takes place during the first gonotrophic cycle in females. Feeding and mating stimulate egg production and muscle histolysis. Starved virgin females do not histolyse the flight muscles. Mating has greater effect on muscle degeneration than feeding. Ovariectomy inhibits degeneration to a certain extent.
Keywords:Degeneration  flight muscle  feeding mating  ovariectomy
