| Abstract: | A simple technique is described enabling the identification in scanning electron micrographs (SEM) of combined Iractured and etched stromatoporoid sections, the cyanobacteria-hkc coccoid aggregates building the entire stromatoporoid structure. The coccoid aggregates from stromatoporoids are closely related to extant calcified coccoid cyanobacteria (Plcurocapsales) forming stromalolitic mats in Laguna Mormona (Baja California) and Sabkha Gavish (Sinai).
