Abstract:Malaria is frequently associated with splenomegaly. However, spontaneous splenic rupture is a rare and life-threatening complication. It is mostly seen in acute infection in non-immune adults and Plasmodium vivax and Plasmodium falciparum have been associated with the majority of cases. We describe a case of splenic rupture in an adult with complicated malaria by Plasmodium falciparum in which a conservative approach was used.
