Abstract: | Fruits of Cyclolobium brasiliense Benth. (Leguminosae; Papilionoideae) were found to contain quinolizidine alkaloids. Several tetracyclic sparteine-type alkaloids, the bipiperidyl alkaloid ammodendrine and the α-pyridone alkaloid N-methylcytisine were identified. The presence of quinolizidine alkaloids in this monotypic genus supports a relationship with tribe Brongniartieae and genistoid tribes rather than its current placement in tribe Millettieae. |
