Abstract: | Plant sulpholipid, sulphoquinovosyl diacylglycerol (SQDG), represents about 12% of the lipid mass in higher plants and as the lipid with net negative charge is capable to play a specific role in the structural organisation of the membrane. SQDG appears to be concentrated mainly in the plant chloroplasts, as in envelope so and in lamellar membranes; higher plant chloroplasts are considered to be completely autonomous for SQDG synthesis both the DAG moiety and the head group. The possible pathway of SQDG biosyntheses and functions are discussed. |
