Isolation and Mapping of Phosphotransferase Mutants in Escherichia coli

Mutants of Escherichia coli K-12 defective in enzyme I or Hpr, the two common components of the phosphoenolpyruvate-dependent phosphotransferase system, were isolated by a simple, direct method.
