| Abstract: | Presynaptic receptors play an important role - typically inhibitory--in modulating the strength of synaptic transmission in the brain. Recent studies now reveal that neurotransmitters can enhance synaptic strength by activating ligand-gated ion channels in presynaptic nerve endings. |
