Elektronenmikroskopische Beobachtungen an Parasiten aus Scenedesmus-Massenkulturen

Zusammenfassung Es wird gezeigt, daß ein chytridialer Parasit auf Scenedesmus, der ehemals für eine Phlyctidium-Art gehalten wurde, ein schwach verzweigtes Haustorium und ein Zoosporangium mit einem gut entwickelten Deckel hat. Er wird daher vorerst als ein Chytridium angesehen. Die Infektion der Wirtszelle, deren Reaktion, die Entwieklung des Zoosporangiums und die Feinstruktur der Zoosporen werden beschrieben. In unserem Material, das aus unsterilen Massenkulturen von Scenedesmus armatus stammt, sind einige Zoosporangien des Pilzes von Bakterien infiziert und zerstört.

Electron microscopic observations on parasites of Scenedesmus mass cultures

Summary It is shown that the chytridial parasite of Scenedesmus, which was formerly taken for a species of Phlyctidium, has a slightly branched haustorium and a zoosporangium with a well developed operculum. Therefore, it is regarded preliminarily as a Chytridium. The infection of the host cell, its reaction, the development of the zoosporangium and the fine structure of the zoospores are described. In our material, which was taken from nonsterile mass cultures of Scenedesmus armatus, several zoosporangia of Chytridium sp. had been infected and destroyed by bacteria.
