Abstract: | Most of the genomic DNA in eukaryotes is bound to histone complexes, which hinders transcription factors from accessing their target DNA sequences. Here, we discuss recent structural insights into the mechanisms by which pioneer factors, an emerging class of transcription factors, can recognize DNA motifs located on the nucleosome surface. |
