Abstract:3-Acetamido-5-iodo-6-aminoacridine (3), a derivative of the known intercalating agent proflavine (3,6-diaminoacridine) (1) was synthesized, and no-carrier-added 123I and 125I labeled compounds prepared. Compound 3 was taken up by live cells and localized in the nucleus. The intracellular concentration of [125I]3 was 7-fold greater in human prostate carcinoma (PC-3) cells than in normal Chinese hamster lung fibroblast (V-79) cells.
